began in 1976 when scuba enthusiast Dave Parker, in his Torrance, CA garage, created a safety tool using twine, a hockey stick, and a metal weight to mark diving spots. Dubbed the “Pelican Float,” this innovative device was designed to float on the water’s surface, signaling divers to key locations. Knowing it could save lives, Dave’s invention set Pelican on a path toward creating reliable gear for professionals.
